Creating a TestGorilla Profile

Coming from a skills assessment

If an employer invited you to a skills assessment, your profile is created for you automatically once you finish testing. You'll land on a screen with your name and email already filled in — no need to verify your email again. From here:

  1. Use the email address you used to register for the assessment. Your Skills Assessment results are linked to your email address.

  2. Set a password, accept the candidate terms, and choose whether you'd like updates from TestGorilla, then select Save my profile.

  3. Tell us what kind of work you do — your current or target role, years of experience, and English proficiency.

  4. Add your location (city or region). This helps us surface roles relevant to your time zone and right-to-work requirements.

  5. Add your resume and LinkedIn profile to give recruiters more context behind your verified skills.

  6. Choose who can see your profile — Actively looking, Open to opportunities, or Not right now.

Note: If you choose Not right now, you'll skip straight to your results and your profile will be set to private automatically. You can change this anytime from your profile settings.

Signing up on your own

If you found TestGorilla independently, you'll build your profile from scratch:

  1. Enter your email and password, accept the candidate terms, and select Create my profile.

  2. Check your inbox to verify your email, then return to TestGorilla.

  3. Add your first and last name.

  4. Let us know what you're looking for next — Actively looking, Open to opportunities, or Private. You can change this anytime.

  5. Tell us what kind of work you do — your current or target role, years of experience, and English proficiency.

  6. Add your location (city or region).

  7. Add your resume and LinkedIn profile, then select Finish my profile.

Invited by a recruiter (3rd-party outreach)

  1. Click on the View the full role link from the email and head to the invitation overview page.

  2. From here, click Accept and continue to create your profile.
If the role is no longer available, simply click Get discovered to sign up - you can still opt in to get found by recruiters.

  3. Enter your email and password, accept the candidate terms, and select Create my profile.

  4. Check your inbox to verify your email, then return to TestGorilla.

  5. Upload your resume to auto-populate your profile.

  6. Share a bit about yourself and what you're looking for in the Personal info tab.

  7. Review your resume and LinkedIn profile, then select Finish my profile.

💡 Tip: A profile is never really "done". The more details you add (work experience, education, resume, LinkedIn), the better recruiters can understand your skills and match you to the right roles. You can go back and complete any section at any time.

Troubleshooting your resume upload

It's understandable to feel a bit stuck when a file upload isn't working as expected. Here's a quick troubleshooting guide to help you out:

  • Resume format: Double-check that your file is in an accepted format. TestGorilla supports:

    • PDF

    • DOCX (Microsoft Word documents)

  • File size: Large files can sometimes cause issues. The maximum file size is 2 MB — try compressing your file or saving it in a different format if it's over the limit.

  • Internet connection: A stable internet connection is crucial for successful uploads. If your connection is slow or unstable, it can interrupt the process. Consider these steps:

    • Run a quick internet speed test to ensure you have a reliable connection (ideal minimums are 1.5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload).

    • If possible, use an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for better stability.

    • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router to improve signal strength.

    • Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks if you have other options, as they can often be less reliable.

  • Browser issues: Sometimes, your web browser itself can cause upload problems.

    • Clear cache: Accumulated temporary data can interfere. Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, then restarting your browser.

    • Try a different browser: If clearing the cache doesn't work, try uploading the file using a different web browser (e.g., if you're using Chrome, try Firefox or Edge).

    • Disable browser extensions: Some browser extensions (like ad-blockers or JavaScript blockers) can interfere with upload processes. Try disabling them temporarily and then reattempting the upload.

  • File corruption: Ensure the file you're trying to upload isn't corrupted. Try opening and viewing the file on your computer to confirm it's accessible. If you can't open it, the file might be damaged.

  • File in use: Make sure the file you're trying to upload isn't currently open or being edited in another application. If a file is in use, it might be locked and unable to be uploaded.

  • Special characters in document name: While many systems handle them, some special characters or unusually long document names can cause issues during upload. Try renaming the resume document to something simple, using only alphanumeric characters, and avoid leading or trailing spaces.

Editing your TestGorilla Profile

You can edit your profile at any time. From the top navigation, select My profile.

Your profile page is split into two tabs (located to the right):

  • Profile — your personal details, work experience, and resume

  • Job preferences — your job search status and how visible you are to recruiters

To edit your personal details: Select the pencil icon on your profile card to update your name, pronouns, role, location, years of experience, English preference, LinkedIn, and portfolio links.

To update your resume: Use the CV/Resume panel to upload or replace your file. Replacing your resume won't affect your work history — the two are managed separately.

To change your job search status or visibility: Select the Job preferences tab, or use the Talk to Cal prompt on your profile to share your goals directly — TestGorilla uses this to match you with roles that fit.

Accessing assessment invitations from employers

In your TestGorilla talent profile, you are able to review and access all of your job prospects in one consolidated place! Navigate to the My jobs tab to find all of your assessment and sourcing invitations. You'll also find jobs from the Opportunity Feed that you’ve engaged with on this page.

For new assessment invitations, you can click "Go to assessment" to start the assessment directly from your Talent profile. If you have already completed an assessment, you can click "View results" to review your results and, if possible, share to your LinkedIn profile.

Understand your test result

Your test results are more than just numbers—they're a way to showcase your unique skills and stand out to employers based on what you can actually do. When you complete a test, your profile is updated with verified data that helps you own your career journey.

Note: You are not able to review the exact questions and answers. Keep in mind that these are just raw results and do not reflect any decisions made by the employer.

What your scores mean

Instead of traditional "pass or fail" marks, we provide insights into your performance to help you understand your strengths:

  • Percentile rank: Most results show how you performed compared to other candidates who took the same test. For example, scoring in the 92nd percentile means you performed better than 92% of all test-takers in that specific category.
  • Diverse metrics: Some tests, like typing speed, provide direct measurements such as words per minute (wpm) and accuracy percentage. While personality tests do not yield a "score," but rather identify your dominant traits and behavioral style to provide a holistic view of your professional profile.
  • Verified results: These scores are objectively measured and verified by TestGorilla, giving recruiters a clear and fair view of your capabilities beyond what’s written on a resume.
  • ➡️ Learn more: Introducing AI test feedback to get personalized, plain-language insights into your performance, strengths, and specific growth areas.
Note: If you’ve previously taken personality tests and your results differ from what you got in the skills assessment, don’t stress! External factors can affect the answers you select, so taking a personality test in your free time versus taking one for a possible job may result in different answers.  But, the answers still reflect your personality.

Starting/resuming a skills assessment

In addition to viewing the results of your skills assessment, you can review all skills assessments you’ve had interactions with. For example, if you are invited to a skills assessment and take a break, you can also use the TestGorilla Profile interface to pick up where you left off.

  1. Once logged in, locate the application with the Invited status and click on it.

  1. In the overview, click on the Start assessment button to start taking the remaining tests easily.

Taking the skills assessment will continue in the same way, meaning it will open in a separate window, and the results will be sent to the company whose job you are applying for once you complete it.

What’s next?

While you have access to your results, it's important to remember that this doesn't guarantee your advancement in the hiring process. You also can’t compare your results to those of other candidates to protect the privacy of other candidates and allow the company to make fair decisions.

At TestGorilla, we firmly believe that accessing your scores is valuable! These scores can serve as tools designed to highlight your strengths and areas of potential development. With our new AI test feedback, you can receive a structured report that explains these strengths and provides concrete steps to help you grow. Still, please keep in mind that achieving a certain score doesn’t signify anything unless the company you applied to makes you aware of that. For example, while you might have a high score on a test, there may have been candidates with even higher scores.

We acknowledge that it can be disappointing if your scores don't perfectly align with the expectations of a particular employer. However, your results may reveal some hidden gems: skills you can be proud of, personality traits you weren’t aware of, or valuable insights into areas for personal growth. Our platform isn't just a tool for companies; it's also a resource for you to assess your skills and identify areas where you can improve and grow!

Common questions

I had technical difficulties.

Please contact our support team to investigate further and instruct you on the next steps.

I don’t agree with the results.

The scores you are presented with are calculated based on the answers you gave in the individual tests of the skills assessment. If you believe there’s been a mistake, feel free to contact us to investigate further, or the employer to request a retake. Please note that hiring decisions are at the employer's discretion, and any decisions lie solely with them.

💡 Tip: If you’re unsure why you received a specific score, check your AI test feedback for insights into your test-taking behavior and performance summary.

I can’t see my results.

The employer may have disabled automatically directing you to the TestGorilla Profile login page upon completion of the assessment. The decision is made at the employer's discretion.

I don’t have access to the skills assessment.

This is something in the control of the company you applied to. It could be that they have already closed their skills assessment. You will need to contact the employer, as TestGorilla cannot make the skills assessment available if a company has chosen to take it offline.
