Managing your privacy without deleting

Deleting your account is permanent and irreversible. If you don't want to lose your assessment history or skills verification, TestGorilla offers two lighter options:

  • Hide profile from recruiters: Stops your profile from being discovered by recruiters in talent sourcing searches while keeping your account and assessment scores intact.

  • Pause email notifications: Stops non-essential marketing and invitation emails. When enabled, a persistent Resume emails banner will appear at the top of your settings page so you can opt back in at any time.

Choosing either of these options applies immediately and lets you keep your verified test scores and LinkedIn proof-sharing links active.

How to delete your candidate profile

If you still wish to delete your account, you can complete the self-serve deletion process directly from your account settings.

What happens when you delete your profile

When you complete the self-serve deletion process, your account details and personal data are permanently removed.

Here is a breakdown of what gets removed and what happens to your test records:

Data Category

What happens on deletion

Account and identity

Your user account, login tokens, profile information, profile photo, video responses, and uploaded resumes/CVs are permanently deleted.

Preferences and details

Your saved work experience, education, skills, location preferences, and consent preferences are purged.

Employer assessment scores

Scores and assessment answers for tests taken directly for customer job applications are anonymized. The employer retains the score record for their retention window, but all personal links to your identity are permanently removed.

Communications

Your contact record is removed from our marketing systems to ensure you no longer receive emails.

Identity verification and fraud prevention data

To maintain platform integrity and ensure fair testing, TestGorilla enforces retake cooldown limits.

When you delete your account, your identity verification session link (managed via our verification partner, Veriff) is retained internally in a restricted system for 3 months before being purged. This record contains no active profile details and exists solely to prevent misuse, such as recreating accounts to reset assessment attempt cooldowns.

If you completed identity verification, you will receive a transactional email containing a reference ID (e.g., REF-xxxxx). You can provide this reference ID to Support if you have questions regarding your verification status during that 3-month security window.

Common questions

Can TestGorilla restore my account after I delete it?

No. Account deletion via the self-serve wizard is immediate and permanent. Once confirmed, your profile data, uploaded documents, and personal skill credentials cannot be recovered.

Will employers I applied to still see my assessment scores?

Employers whose job assessments you completed will still see the assessment scores and test answers for the duration of their data retention period (up to 2 years). However, these records are anonymized, meaning your name, email, contact details, and candidate profile are unlinked and permanently deleted.

What happens if I pause email notifications?

Pausing email notifications stops non-essential emails. You can turn email notifications back on at any time by clicking the Resume emails banner in your account settings.

Why do I need to type "DELETE" to confirm?

Because account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone, typing "DELETE" ensures that the action is deliberate and prevents accidental account removal.
