To maintain a fair, trustworthy, and secure environment for both job seekers and employers, TestGorilla utilizes a secure identity verification process. This guide explains how identity verification works on the talent platform, when you will be prompted to complete it, and how it helps you stand out to potential employers.

How does identity verification work?

When you join the TestGorilla talent platform, the full Test Library is immediately available to you. You do not need to verify your identity to get started, edit your profile settings, or take your first few evaluations.

  • Your first 3 tests are free — You can take any 3 tests or conversational AI interviews of your choice completely unverified.
  • Attempting a 4th test — When you select and attempt to start a 4th test, you will see an identity verification prompt to unlock the remainder of the expanded test library.

At that stage, you can choose to complete the quick verification flow immediately or return to your dashboard. You can also voluntarily verify your identity at any time by navigating to the My profile tab.

What do I need for verification?

The secure check is powered by our third-party verification partner, Veriff. The process usually takes less than a minute. You will need a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, such as:

  • A passport
  • A national ID card
  • A driver's license

Is my data safe?

Yes, your privacy and data security are our top priorities. TestGorilla only uses this process to confirm your identity. We do not store any of your raw ID documentation or verification biometrics on our internal systems. To complete your check successfully in under 30 seconds, keep these tips in mind:

💡 Use a physical ID: You must scan a physical government-issued document. Digital or printed copies, uploads, or screenshots will be rejected.

💡 Check your environment: Ensure your camera lens is clean, your face is clearly visible, and you are in a well-lit room to avoid blurry images.

💡 Avoid mismatches: Ensure the name on your TestGorilla profile matches the name printed on your identity document.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the ID verification step entirely?

Yes. You have the option not to verify your identity, and you can still browse the platform and take up to 3 tests or AI interviews for free. However, if you choose not to complete verification after your 3 free slots are used, you will not be able to unlock or take further tests from the expanded library.

What should I do if my verification fails?

If your verification does not go through, the system will present an error message detailing why it failed. Common reasons include poor lighting, a blurry photo, using an expired document, or a physical mismatch between your document photo and your live selfie. Make adjustments based on the error message and click the retry button.

What if the system says, “We couldn't verify your identity”?

This means the automated system was unable to safely confirm a match. Please ensure you are using a supported, valid physical document in a well-lit room and try again. If you experience repeated failures, click the support option or contact our support team directly for manual assistance.
